How to travel from Bangkok to Raja Ampat, the secret island for ocean lover
- From Bangkok you need to take flight to Jakarta first, and then another domestic flight from Jakarta to Sorong Airport.
- From there, you will need a transit bus or van from the airport to Sorong Harbour.
- Then, take an express boat to Waisai Harbour (which is the main harbour of Raja Ampat, a hidden treasure Island).
- To check-in to your hotel, you will need one more boat or ferry to take from the main harbour to the island where your homestay located.
This would take about 12 hours to travel in total. It seems like no pain no gain to get to the hidden gem island for ocean lover, however, you can always have fun and relax at least when you observe the local people at the airport or just find something new to eat while waiting for the next transit.
Cautious: this was my first experience to miss the flight. I booked Lion Air for my international flight and then Batik Air (Lion Air’s subsidiaries) for domestic flight. However, there was no luggage transfer over from Bangkok to Sorong Airport. That was why I needed to pick up luggage at Jakarta and then reloaded again. Transit interval between flights that I booked was around 2 hours and that was not sufficient at that time since the waiting time for luggage pick up at Jakarta was over 1 hour. Also, terminal is not the same one and you will need about 20-30 minutes for transportation. So I would like to suggest please make sure about the transit time and terminal, thus you might not miss the flight like I did.
การเดินทางไปเกาะราชา อัมพัต ใช้เวลาค่อนข้างนานประมาณ 12 ชั่วโมง จากกรุงเทพฯ ถึงที่พักบนเกาะ ดังนี้
- บินจากกรุงเทพฯ ไปเมืองจาการ์ตา ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย และต่อสายการบินในประเทศ ไปยังสนามบิน Sorong (มีทั้งแบบบินตรง และบินผ่าน 1 transit)
- เมื่อถึงสนามบิน Sorong จะต้องต่อรถไปยัง Sorong Harbour เพื่อนั่งเรือต่อไปยังเกาะราชา อัมพัต
- นั่งเรือไปลงท่าเรือหลักที่ชื่อ Waisai Harbour
- จากนั้น ต่อจากท่าเรือหลัก ไปยังเกาะที่เป็นที่ตั้งของโรงแรม
การเดินทางในแต่ละส่วนมีรอบระยะเวลาที่ค่อนข้างแน่นอน และต้องใช้การวางแผนที่ค่อนข้างรัดกุม

Dheram and his families with several kids are the owner of the house who always helped us since we reached Waisai Harbour (The entry fee for international visitors is around USD 100) and took us carefully to each attraction. They provide like full board package including all meals but not included alcohol beverage.
One things I can imagine when I was here is that if anyone as tourists specifically ocean lovers are planning to visit there, please help preserve the island and sea even when local take ruthless actions both consciously and unconsciously.
